If you’ve never taken your American Coach out on the road in cold-weather regions, there are some basic things (beyond having your RV winterized, which is the most important thing) that can make the experience safer and more enjoyable.

A supplemental power source

One of our favorite cold-weather travel tips is to take full advantage of the power of the sun. Simply finding a sunny campsite can help save fuel and battery power. Pair that with a supplemental solar kit, and it can do even more – giving you enough power to charge your battery banks and ensure your cozy heated blanket won’t drain your power supply.

A handy snow shovel

You find the perfect out-of-the-way spot to park your American Coach. The forecast calls for a clear, snow-free night. Except while you were sleeping, the wind did its thing with what’s already there, and now your RV is surrounded by a wall of snow. Packing a sturdy portable shovel is another cold-weather no-brainer. There are plenty of great options out there (including this one that doubles as a saw!), and it’s worth investing in one that’s more durable and reliable.

A heated water hose

Want to make sure you have running water on your cold-weather camping trip? Help your pipes survive brutal below-freezing temps with a heated water hose. This worthwhile investment is usually a very easy install and helps ensure you can shower, wash dishes, and stay hydrated without draining your power supply. A space heater

A space heater is a great way to keep the inside of your RV nice and cozy. This little appliance can make all the difference on those too cold of winter nights. There are a lot of great options to choose from, including this remote controlled space heater from Lasko. It’s small enough for easy storage, has an oscillating fan for even heat distribution, and is self-regulating to prevent over-heating.
